Well recently I decided to look in my *** alienware x51 r2 because it cant play games without the video settings set to low or medium at a decent fps. When I took out the video card module, all there was was a little black box, and of course all the components that are needed to run my *** gtx 650 (if it was in there of course) The two pci-e connector cables were just sitting there in my case and I had nowhere to plug them into. So of course I looked on YouTube to hopefully find a video that could maybe tell me what the *** is going on inside my computer, and i found an alienware support video, "how to take out the graphics card". So this video played out with a guy taking out the graphics card (pretty self explanatory) but of course, there's actually a graphics card in it. Huh... So me and my little black box don't know what to do and i'm gonna take a rather large guess and say that the box probably shouldn't be like that. The uploaded pictures are what i saw when I looked in my computer first. If someone can help with telling me what the *** the thing is it would be very appreciated because I really don't want to deal with alienware's tech support.

Numerous technical issues and poor after sales service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
PC had a number of technical issues in the year following purchase which eventually led to having to replace the graphics card. The motherboard also had to be replaced within 18 months due to a manufacturer fault, which meant that the processor and memory also had to be replaced due to no longer being compatible. This was all at my own cost as the machine only came with 1 year warranty. I was also promised a rebate of £200 but this was never received. Grossly overpriced (even without the technical issues) and poor after sales support - be sure to shop around and get the longest warranty available.

Only had my alienware for about 7 months and video card went bad, worse yet, it was determined that i needed a new motherboard. When the tech came to install we found that the motherboard still had a admin password associated with the machine which wouldnt enable us to set up the pc. I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER ALIENWARE, DELL PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!!!

$4000 wasted on a laptop

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
A year and half ago I spent over $4,000 (including the warranted) on the best possible M17 I could buy. I had read about freezing and hanging issues with Alienware laptops but hoped that everything I read on the internet wasn't true, unfortunately it was in my case. The day it came in the mail I plugged it in, booted it up, logged into windows for the first time... and it starting freezing. The laptop was more or less useless. After two months on the phone with tech support the computer was finally in a "usable" condition. Sadly to get it to work they had to turn off the over-clocking (that I paid for) and make some other questionable changes to software settings. The problem was never resolved, however, but the computer was usable and I resigned myself to the reality that I had wasted four thousand dollars. About a month and a half ago I received a "sata drive 2 has stopped functioning error" from the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application and had to call tech support again. They replaced hard drive number two (in my Raid 0 config) and had to reinstall windows. After reinstalling windows the tech agent failed to set up the Intel Raid Storage Technology application that controlled my hardware acceleration (that I paid for), and... the original freezing and hanging returned but worse this time. The computer was dirt slow and completely unusable but the agent I spoke with over the phone assured me for two hours that everything was working fine... I resolved the hardware acceleration issue with a quick google search while being put on hold by the agent (after I got tired of being told nothing was wrong) but the hanging and freezing still remained. I don't mind solving my own issues, I am accustomed to it, but I paid $500 for a warranty to save myself the time of having to do it. Again Alienware failed to provide me with what I paid for. I would like to say it ends here but replacing the hard drive did not solve the issue, I was still receiving the error message so they promptly sent a box for me to ship the laptop into their service facility. I was impressed by how fast I got the computer back and would have been even more impressed if they had actually fixed the problems. The day it returned from the repair facility a feeling of gloom hung in the air, deep inside I knew it wouldn't be fixed. They replaced the SSD drive that runs the hardware acceleration and to my surprise that DID fix the "sata drive 2 has stopped functioning" error but the persistent freezing and hanging remained, rendering the laptop useless. At that point I wondered if they even test these PC's after repair by logging in and using them. Even 5 minutes of actually trying to use the PC to surf the web or listen to a MP3 and you see how broken it is. While in the repair facility they reinstalled Windows 7 (again) and this time they remembered to install the drivers for the hardware acceleration but they formatted the SSD drive wrong. They set it up for "caching" to speed up the PC (you know, the kind of caching you have when you buy a cheap USB drive to speed up your computer?). The computer was (again) dirt slow, but I searched around and found the solution myself (which was to delete the volume on the SSD so that the hardware acceleration option appears in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app). At this point hopelessness started to set in, I was starting to realize that the tech support exhibited little to no real knowledge of the technology that was going into these machines. They were working off from "step by step" diagnosis charts and not thoroughly testing the PC at all. I called tech support back and after two or three days of deliberation they decided to change out the motherboard and RAM, 3 weeks had passed now from the time my computer had stopped functioning. The parts were on back order for 3 days, then on the day they were supposed to be in they got pushed back for another week, then pushed back agian... Finally I asked for the computer to be replaced if that was at all possible, since I had no idea of when the parts would be in and I purchased this computer for work and needed it badly. They agreed to replace the PC. I would like to say that this story ends here but unfortunately it doesn't. It is going on two weeks now since they agreed to replace the computer (which should have taken a few days to process) and I cannot reach the resolution department to even discuss the matter. When I do manage to talk to someone they just tell me it will be 2-5 days longer. At this point I have little choice but to purchase a new PC and ask Dell for a refund or turn the matter over to an attorney to obtain a refund for me should that fail.

Alienware Computer Repair Review from Atlanta, Georgia

I sent in the computer to the company. They said it would be 5-7 days in repair shop (plus one day up and one day back for shipping). It has no been 3 weeks since I sent it. First they closed the bill before it was finished so no work was done on it. Then they forgot to order a part until last minute. Now it is almost friday of the third week and I have not received a single update without hastling my support contact there. What a load ***

Piece of GARBAGE and DELL is a slimy company!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Spent $1700 on a high end Alienware desktop for my son for Christmas. Purchased 10/5/2015, in advance. It was garbage out of the box. It overheated and they said the video card was just bad. I told them I wanted the whole thing replaced but they said too bad, since I bought it 10/5/15 it was out of warranty... (It had been out of the box for exactly one day!) They convinced me to send it in for "thorough diagnostics and repair" against my better instincts, which were to stay on the phone and demand a refund. I sent it in. They sent it back. It promptly overheated and CRASHED entirely. I called again and had to fight with them for a refund for an hour and a half. They tried to argue that his monitor was plugged into the wrong HDMI port -- because apparently they think I'm a ***. I fought to the death to get a refund and they finally agreed, promising to send me a prepaid return label. However, they said, "you must return the machine within five days or the refund is void."

Okay..here's where it goes from bad to unethical and reprehensible. THEY DIDN'T SEND THE PREPAID LABEL. That's right folks. DELL LIED. They tried to run out the clock so they wouldn't have to give me a refund. They are crooks. I had to call again and demand the label. When I asked why they had not sent it, the customer service rep said they had no record of it. "It must have been a glitch in the system."

Yes. A glitch wherein Dell tries to rob and cheat consumers. I am outraged.

Bastards did the same thing to me. Said a brand new laptop wasn't in warranty anymore due to it's manufacturing date being 9 months prior to the purchase date.

No customer service at all from them.

Took the POS back to the store I got it from and got them to take it back. Funny thing is one week later that store removed it's Alienware display and no-longer is selling Alienware.

Alienware Laptop Review from Wylie, Texas

Me: My Alienware will not post. I’ve tried several things as directed on your site and many user sites and failed to resolve the issue. The screen remains black, the keyboard lights up, the Alienware logo lights up, the fans (sometimes) come on but does not go past that stage. I would like to send my computer in for out of warranty repair. Will you help me with this? I will PAY them to work on it, but this is the email thread: Them: Thank you for your recent contact. Your system hardware is no longer supported. We recommend checking out with a 3rd party reseller for parts and service for your system. If you need drivers and applications for your system visit our http://support.dell.com website where you can find the latest drivers for your system. Thank you for choosing Alienware. Dell | Alienware Technical Support Specialist Me: I know that. I was hoping I could pay you to service it. I was made to believe you would do that. Them: We apologize for the inconvenience but he problem is that we don't have parts in stock and the problem that you have its hardware related motherboard or even GPU. because that we can offer your any service as per no pars at all available. Me: That makes no sense. If the computer was under warranty you would have to service it. So how do I get my computer worked on my Dell as a paid service? Them: I really sorry about that but if for any chance one is under warranty usually we reserve some parts for those that still in warranty but if there is no parts for those in warranty another action will be take but for computers already out of warranty we don't have parts, one more time apologize about it but there is nothing we can do, the system completely end of life .....I guess I am stuck with the paper weight. I can't find anyone to work on it, including the manufacturer!

My so called "Gaming computer" crashed/froze 6 times in 1 hour, that is horrid and outrageous, alienware 18 not worth the two thousand dollars to have it crash while playing a game for 10 minutes, I had the fans exposed with the laptop on top of books to prevent it and I even dedicated a small fan to cooling it down but it still freezes every *** 10 minutes. ALIENWARE 18 might not have been worth the 2 thousand dollars I played for it.

Id rather commit suicide than keeping my AlienWare Aurora

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Hohoho! there are so many reason not to buy an alienware and this story is one of those reason, and i must admit I can take a lot of hit from a company to fill any kind of complaint anywhere, but this is just over the top. There is so many things here i dont know where to start.

So I got a brand new aurora out of the box, told myself alienware used to be a big thing, and since im heading into the video game industries, it was why not get a bomb and goes mind free for a long time! sadly it aint what happen, and it nearly start when i unboxed it! Actualy it made me do all the update without any problems, also since i really , but sincerly dont like windows 8 why not taking windows 7 ultimate edition. From here they could not give me a cd because it was not windows 8.

So after updating that *** i start installing programs that i would eventualy need! So start with autodesk 3ds max, maya, mudbox and then the installer pop up an error, but still managed to install all of them , i dont know how tough, but reading there and there help me figure it out, so it run. Then I installed Warface it force rebot my computer, i manage to fix this game with tweaking the fan control. Then i tried to install Serious Sam first encounter Hd, same force reboot but this time couldnt fix it. Then installed GTA 4 and it didnt let me change the setting which were in low res, suck to play in low res, when a ps3 run with more graphics than a 3000$ computer. Then I tried to install Daz 3d , during install an other error that doesnt install it again, roam around but never find an answer to fix that. Week after I buy Zbrush, guess what during install it give a administrator privilege thing when im the only user and tried everything online to fix that, never work, so now im running a 800 $ prog on a 500$ notebook and not my alienware that was supposed to be used for that, but guess not. After that tried to installe normal maps nvidia plugin for photoshop, same thing dont want to install things because of error. Later on got kane $ lynch + serious sam the first encounter not hd this time.... alienware say not a gaming pc sorry lets force reboot your not so gaming computer. I can say for games that work and let me configure the display they are amazing running on amd radeon 4gb cards, but still pretty limited in the game selection that it want to run. About a month ago everytime i start windows it always show problem with HD G:ESP or I:Recovery, and both of them cannot be fixed when ask because windows cannot access them, which is normal for hd that should not show up and stay hidden and the intel RST take a long time to start. And last week when im using 3ds max and about to make a selection the viewport blink to wireframe till i let go the click, it does that about 1-2 time on every 8-10 selections, just like the computer was missing some juice to do a normal job.

And since this computer is more of job matters i dont download nothing on it and dont go on sites i should not go,for that i used my notebook, trying to avoid most the trouble, still my notebook still run better and let me install everything i could not install here. But I found that if you go in safe mode with internet connectivity it will by pass the admin privilege and even the install error that show up, but when you go back into normal mode, it didnt install half the stuff in needed, and still stuck with nothing working. Sad thing is everything work find into comodo sandbox, no problem except its a sand box.

With all that I contact Dell with my super over the top warranty, which just mean super over the top priced warranty, because it does nothing at all. Everything you tell them they only answer yeah but its not covered, so let me see by remote acces your computer, they do and double click on the app to install and the same message i got pop up, then everytime i tried to call they give all the same answer << Sorry mister its not covered by warranty, us we only cover app that we sold you like mcafee>> Like i told them WTF take mcafee..... then customer care call me, and told them to screw off if they would tell me the same thing again, so now the guy explain me the samething as the other guy and trying to convince me to be zen about it. Told him never contact me again. 2 days after they called again, i guess it was the customer care of the customer care, to tell me the same thing, and told them to never contact me again. Week after they send me a survey email asking me about dell and the customer care. I couldnt hold myself i write to them that if they ever contact me again for any reason other than helping me, I threw they crapware into the ocean and stop making payment, and by the time they realised it i would already have a contract with an other major company, so they could come with the credits thing i wouldnt care, good thing to not put your name on a lot of stuff, living with somebody and putting everything to his name got some advantage. Then Finally it was the end, not more contact from them. I also bought a dell tablet for my kids and because they remove a little plastic sticker with a specific numbers, that looked a lot like the plastic they but on the screen to protect it, because did not have that i bought it at best buy they could not help me out! Went to best buy they called dell in fron of me and get the same thing, nothing they could do, now the clerk try to explain them that the tablet is not even on the market for 6 month and they should do something about it! they just answered the clerk, well nothing we could do, even if we would want to! The clerk was kind enough to make the trade for dell, thx to best buy for that. Its not the fact i dont have money for it, its the fact as a customer i got right, and as a seller you got rights too, and my rights are not to get screw for a *** piece of craft that is worth less than a Zune, because it doesnt want to char 2 month after bought.

So Make story short crapware is not worth it if you want something better go for falcon northwest! Dont ever by dell they are not the dell you knew, and they just plainly dont care about you or him or actualy anybody that make their sales grow! Also everyday that crapware remind me that i made a mistake with a new thing to show up or not do!

Few month later the game start to crash on metro 2033 running un high graphics and noe the talos principal... what a gaming Pc!

Also when i shut down the computer half the time it restart instead of just shutting down and it comeback with an hdd scan error for the same drives as before. for the other half, half the time it shut down everything up, screen keyboard, mouse but not the computer its still running and nothing will work to make it shut except force closing it holding the shut down button.

I am seriously tired of this computer, now i know that before I am done paying for it, I am gonna throw it in the river and go get an other computer.... why !?! easy to say because with all those *** force reboot because the gaming computer cannot handle games now it *** up the alienfx *** things and cannot put it back on at all even if i do whatever the pop up says.

I purchased an Alienware 17" laptop and within about a day the screen no longer worked, so I arranged for a new computer to be sent in its place. The second laptop had the exact same problem so I asked for another laptop or a refund. They refused me both for about 7 months. Finally today I received a partial refund:(. They were horrible to deal with and despite having a warranty I'm out $400!

Warranty not honoured

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had purchased a $4k monster rig back in Dec 2009 from Alienware/Dell & began having various boot issues starting Sept 2014. As it turns out the motherboard of all components was failing. I had purchased an extended warranty separately as well as I was planning to gift the PC to my 2 nephews & get a new PC (it was going to be from Alienware). The rep assured me the extended warranty would cover the PC until the Dec 2014. The PC finally went black in Nov 2014. I called the Dell support line (11/26/2014) & informed them that a friend of mine who works as a tech in a large corporate office did all the time consuming troubleshooting that Dell wanted me to do. My tech friend confirmed that it was an issue with the motherboard. After a 5 min hold, the rep tells me that he will simply refund what I paid for the extended warranty & my $4k custom rig will NOT be covered. Alienware used to be a great gaming rig company- that’s why I went with them initially on a costly purchase. The number of complaints on service & quality that I’m now reading about Alienware is too much for a service that is supposed to provide high end custom PCs. If you are planning to get a high-end PC, do NOT buy from Dell/Alienware as they don’t seem to honor their warranties when it comes time for them to support you down the road. As I’m still fuming over this experience, I emailed all my family & friends to tell them of my experience. I also informed that if they are planning on purchasing a new PC, I will give them $100 NOT to buy from Dell… this is how much Dell has alienated me as a customer.

AC adapter not working

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a Dell Alienware M17 laptop in July and the AC adapter has broken. The end which plugs into the laptop has started to come away and Dell are refusing to replace as they are blaming me for the damage. They want me to do all of the work, won't send someone out to have a look and won't replace it. Just because Dell can't engineer a product which works correctly it is my fault. Then they want me to spend £160 on a new one. AVOID DELL AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF CONMEN WHO DON'T HONOUR THEIR WARRENTY. PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
